anyway,please try and come for the june holidays practice okay.unless you are going away for the holidays.nonono,its a MUST COME,if you want to sustain the silver or get higher in 2 years time,yupp,especially the recruits and the sec 2s. seniors!dont think you can slack either, have to continue practicing for more upcoming events. Don't fake sick and actually running off to somewhere else to play uh.
of course if you are really sick then dont come laa
CCA points are all depended on your attendance:D
BAND is a fun and cool place where you could get lots of points and use it to go to a nice place after you graduate you know XD

Anyway - just a gentle reminder to all graduated seniors, please don't forget to return your lovely blazers (i know you can't part with clothes that have been in contact with your lovely skin for abt 3 years now) but, UNFORTUNATELY....all blazers AND ties... 2) Brassers, dispose of your condensation in dog bowls and not on the floor
3) Percussion, no licking of finger to do rolls on tambourine
4) Properly bin all saliva-ed tissues

Yeah, so we have to work extra hard from now on. There's no need to feel demoralised about this unlucky positioning. Everyone SHOULD see this as yet another incentive to strive harder, to work harder, to practice harder, to push yourselves harder. Stop lazying around. There are only 28 days left to SYF. Who cares how many practices are they, everyone's going to bring home thier instruments and practice hard, and we will persuade for more practices. Stop groaning at this point of time. However, even though lady luck is not on our side, we should all the more stand strong, and prove to the conductors that WE ARE WORTH IT FOR THEM TO SPEND THIER TIME ON. Prove to everyone in the school who look down on us. Trust me, you wont regret it when you work harder in these 30 days or so , there might be a miracle if you guy's change your attitude towards learning in band. Its not too late yet. "Oh really?" Lets see then, its all up to everyone already.

This is the final lap, so give it your final push. Your very best. Examinations are long over. Prioritise your time in practicing for SYF now please. You guys should remember how you regretted not practicing harder when we didnt get a silver last SYF. Whether we spend the next 2 years in turmoil, and regret the leaving of our conductors, or whether we can be proud of our band's musical excellence for the next 2 years depends on this final 28 days. PRACTICE!! Come for band punctually. Write down everything the conductors say. Have passion for making music. Our standard has dropped alot, due to the examinations and the fact that we think highly of playing and band is "NOT IMPORTANT TO US, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STUDIES." Where's that sense of emergency? Comes only during studies? YES. If we are going to get a COP and all the glory the senior's brought back would be wasted. Dont talk about seniors, getting a COP is yet another reason why we should be pushing ourselves harder than ever. Remember everything the conductors have said and PUT IT IN GOOD USE. You think its easy? Then dream on. Stop being satisfied and conforting yourselves at your horrible playing : "Well, at least my notes correct, haha." or " Haha, I think we play nice!" and "I enjoy playing my instrument!" THATS CAUSE YOU ARENT STRESSED OUT by the upcomming SYF and is able to accept such lousy quality of music. Getting a bronze is enough?! Its long ago since the end of play time already. Since you already know the consequences then just face the facts, now the only way not to let that happen is to PRACTICE SMART, not to rush through the whole part with notes all in a mess.

I believe we have the potential to do well. Target that nice sparkling, silver medal, and strive towards it. Not a single second is to be wasted. We definitely can do it, it's just whether you all want to or not. So let's all work hard together as one band and put up the performance of our lives during that few crucial minutes. It all happens like a dream and before you know it, you will break down, and into tears of joy or sadness, it's all up to you.

btw, Mr Nonami is going to be one of the judges for SYF and I am sure he didnt forget us. Are we going to how him the horrendous sound we had two years ago?

Recruitment

whoo, 20 Secondary One Recruits will be joining us from this coming Monday onwards.

it was said that these 20 are the only ones who put band as first choice, the others were posted to some other CCAs. so... i dont know whether to believe it or not.

anyway, we have already submitted our application and marching video on the 6th of Feb, so now, we are just waiting for their reply whether our video was accepted. Cross your fingers and pray hard that it will, if not, we have do it all over again. yeap.

this year, POP clashes with SYF once again. After much deliberation with the UG teachers, they insisted that we get involve in it because to them, Band is important in the POP. without us, they cant do it. haha! So yeah, they will have to push it to a later time or else, it's impossible that we have it together with SYF. so to the secondary 4 members, b e prepared for POP, whatever we have set the other time is null and void.

After POP, we have to perform for Aesthetics Night and sell tickets for the concert. the pieces that we have to play are our choice and set pieces for SYF. It's sure gonna be busy in the month of April.

SYF is 36 days away. Please, work hard and do well. oh and yeah, CT's already over for the Secondary 1 to 3 members, so no more excuses of being to busy for practice. To the Sec4s, good luck for the remaining CT papers! Study hard and play hard (:

For the first time as far as i know, we had band practice for 7 full days. yes, 7 consecutive ones since last saturday. Ok, as you all know its mostly due to the CCA Fair Rehearsal.

On thursday, Mr Yea borught us all to some footdrills at the end of the day. After that whole break from band during the last few weeks of holidays, our standard dropped back to where we were before Mr Yea had trained us from. Now, we have to start from scratch, all over again.. And, yesterday was the rehearsal for CCA Fair. Firstly we went up late, the teacher scolded us. Secondly, we played very horribly. Claim to have reasons behind this, but do you think they are reasons? or not? If we continue to play like this for CCA Fair, we wont be about to recruit enough members to uphold the strength of the band and we will see that everything is going to get real bad after this batch of Secondary 3 members pass out next year. And if we continue how we play Light of Dawn for SYF, just say goodbye to what, we claim, to be aiming for.

Come on Band, you all have to just put in that little more effort. Work hard for now, you can always have fun after SYF. And Sec 4 Seniors, please just try your best to attend practices and work together with all of us for the coming competition. You know that we can't do without you.

On this coming monday, do your best during practice and don't let Mr Tan down or get angry. During sectionals on wednesday, work on all the parts you have difficulty in the two pieces. Dont be complacent and think that you are already very good. No matter what, there is always space for MORE improvements. and, On Thursday, be as welcoming as possible, remain fun and encourage as many secondary ones as possible to JOIN BAND. Mr Yea will be conducting the performance, so do your best. Go memorise your pieces now IF you havent done so.

So, let's just hope that all will go fine for this week and that neither the instructors will get pissed off or too stressed. It's time for more motivation.

Dont worry everyone, this wont be an essay-long post. or not.

I will just sum up what we had in the three days... lots of fun!

DAY 1

We arrived at 7.30am
Warm-up stretching excercises and drills.
Everyone looked sleepy..
Mr Tan told us to do low mark time during the video-ing, but Mr Yea says that mark time can train us better, so he decided to change it by making us raise our hands in level with our knees at 90 degrees and march so we would look less sloppish.
We were told that we look alot neater after that.
At 9.30, we were brought our breakfast! Thanks to Ma'am Mui Ghern that went to collect the 55 sausage buns for us, and the food ICs which made the milo! and it was delicious, people went and take more, since there were some left over. yum!
Combined band practice at 10am. Mr Yea came with a shirt the colour of the curtain and Mr Tan with " Maid clothes." We practiced the set piece, and at least was better than the first time we played it o.o "At least can see the skeleton liao,"- Mr Tan. We had alot more to improve on.
We were told that Mr Mark Chan is going to be one of the Teachers-In-Charge by taking over Mdm Alya which will be leaving at the end of the year. So, its good news and bad news.
At 12pm, we had lunch.
When we came back from lunch, band resumed and woodwinds are to go out and practice with Mr Tan, brasswinds and percussion stay in the band room with Mr Yea, to practice set piece. They corrected alot of our mistakes.
We combined at 3pm and ran through the set piece again.
Following up it was LOD, the choice piece. WE PLAYED EXTREMELY HORRIBLE THAT DAY!
Ran though a few pop songs.
At 4pm, we had games led by Yvonne and Corinne. The Blanket Game was to see whether people's reaction was fast by saying thier names out, and another was saying thier sections too, though it was harder. We ended up saying wrong sections :p One of the gruops have to do a forfeit by drinking the leftover milo from the dispenser itself. Something unfortunate happened.
We had a game of Wacko and Double Wacko and it was fun shouting names and getting hit.
After that we fell in and was dismissed from the first day of Band Camp.
-End of Day 1-

DAY 2

On this day, only half of the band turned up as usual.
Although drills made us really sweaty, it was unexpectedly fun, and we learn alot after trying again and again, getting coached by Mr Yea. Mr Chan, with his pro AVA skills, filmed us while having drills.
We had sectional lunch together as this bonds our sections.
Suddenly Mr Tan started requesting us to play some pop songs that we had played before. We later found out the reason is that we will be performing in the school hall during 11 Jan 2009 for the ministers who will be visiting the sengkang area and schools.
Sudden announcement of the performance make us feel unprepared, like we are not up to it. Tequila still sounds like milk though.
Mr Tan's friend came to look around.
and left.
We practiced choice piece and set piece.
At 4pm, we gathered at the basketball court and had fun wet games!!!
We came back all drenched and had to change into dry clothes.
Had a briefing on the next day, which we will be having the Amazing Race! We promised to the majorettes that we will come.
"Be daring and think out of the box!"
-End of 2nd Day-

Day 3

Surprisingly, the number of people present is the same as that of monday's. The band had responded to Clare's command yesterday night on msn. Seems like the promise worked.
Drills started our day as usual. First came the basic hentak and turning to the right, left and back. Up next was tougher, we did mark time and played Marching Along. It was not that well. Mr Yea told us in the end that we made improvments since the first day he saw us march till today. Our mark time etc were really quite there. HOWEVER, he declared that Marching Along and mark time togther was 'bleh'. More space for improvment!
Afterwhich, a short break and breakfast came up before Combined Practice started with Mr Yea.
During which, we went though the four songs which we are to perform for the ministers on the 11th January - Tequila, The Rainbow Connection, Believe and The Light of Dawn. In addition, we also went through Over No.1 for Wind Band once.
Then, it was lunch.
Amazing race was next but it was being delayed as some alumnis that are supposed to lead the groups didnt turn up. Mr Yea was nice to stay in the band room as he thinks
activities allow us to bond more. The starting game was at the basketball court where the teams finish the first game to get the clue to the next station. Some of the stations require us to ask passers-by to draw different moustache on our faces, which ALL the groups actually did! And some stations were a bit digusting and embarrassing, like applying toothpaste on ourselves and the next person is to clean it off, while the station I/C laughing sadistically away. One require us to sing a happy song while acting emo.
After we got back, we were all very sweaty and tired. We drank the Sinalco thingy and eat the cat ball thingy we bought from Cold Storage.
After that we had prize giving session, the group who got most points in the overall Band camp in three days. The first prize goes to group 2, and first-runner-up goes to group 1. The majorettes decide to present Mr Chan with a gift as a welcoming to SJCband as a TIC.
After we clear all the mess, everyone was tired and happy that we didnt fall out.
-End of Band Camp 2008-

Lastly, we have a list of people whom we would like to thank, for their contribution to the camp.
Thank you Mr Yea for teaching and training us drills that allowed us to be more disciplined and serious in it, and putting so much time into the band and never giving up in us.
Thank you Mr Tan for giving us support, although you were busy on the third day.
Thank you Ma'am Mui Ghern for taking time off and spend time making this band a better one.
Thank you Ma'am Yvonne and Corinne for making the games and taking over, making the band camp enjoyable for all of us.
Thank you anyone of whom we are unable to name but who had in one way or another contributed to the successs of the band camp 2008.

SCOLDING TIME.
Some things just cant end nicely. Only half of the band turn up for three days. come on band, you can all do better than this! We are only left with a little more than a hundred days to the SYF next year. Do you think that making yourself absent will do us any good? Please dont pull the band down with your irresponsible acts of not attending practices. The Band can't just wait for ONE or TWO of you.

Poll was changed because of some issues. The poll may have upsetted some and I am really sorry for that. Actually the poll was just meant to be a joke to find out why the members in our band really joined our band. Some just played along, like (air con stuff/handsome conductor). Band members also probably thought of it as a joke, thats why they chose it. This will not happen again and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Hi bandies, sorry for the late updates.

Lets face the facts. It seems like the band is not up to expectations lately, especially in attendance. The things that are of utmost importance to the band community is going down. I am sure most of you all know of this. Despite many naggings the majorettes and alumnis have given, some of you still dont wish to come for band practices, or to attend drills. Sls called some of you personally and even to the extend of calling to you guys when you skip practices, but many still give them attitude. Some try to run away by pretending that we have called the wrong numbers, off their phones at the last minute, say that parents dont allow, give those stupid damn excuses...Ask yourself, what is the point of running away? Is it worth it? I know some of the Sec ones did not join band willingly, as it was not your first choice CCA. But it is nearly december already, no point whining over these matters. You are now in band, and you are a band member -so go for practices. Maybe you guys think this is unfair, and everyone is forcing you to do something that you do not like. But let us just face it: Life is unfair. Let us just make the best out of whatever we have. Come on guys.

As for the Sec twos and threes, This is the CCA that you've picked for YOURSELF. So bear the responsibility, whether you like it or not. I am very sure every band member definitely share the same passion in music. That common passion that made us choose band as our CCA from the start. Everyone can play well as long as you try hard enough and put in the effort. It all comes from hardwork and practice. So if you don't even come at all, how can you even expect yourself to play well? Whats most important towards our goal depends on each and every one of you. The band needs you.

Dearest Sec three members, have you forgotten how band was like last year before SYF? Remember how we, as a whole band, went through the change in choice piece and really want to get the silver that the seniors achieved then, back? Remember how disastrous our band sound like when some of the seniors left us? Remember even we complained, but still went for practices? Remember the joy when conductors complimented our playing? I am sure many of you have not forgotten these.

All of us aimed for Silver last year, but we got a bronze. Why? One of the reasons is because we started our preparation later, the conductor have to choice to change the set piece into something easier. But history's repeating itself. Do you guys want the standard of the band to drop once again? For last year's SYF, I am sure even till now, everyone has regretted not having to work harder to achieve the silver medal. For the Sec threes, next year's SYF will be the second one for you. You are given a chance to do this again. Do you want to regret once more?

We have gone through many past events together. Yes, we get reprimanded by the conductors, majorettes, and even TICs every now and then. But why? A very simple answer: because they want us to be better. Try appreciating those efforts made, instead of constantly complaining.

Okay. Our drills. They arent good enough. Thats cause we all lack in discipline. Moreover, the SYF video is a need. So do your drills seriously. Put a halt to moaning and tsk-ing. Don't show that attitude. Thats the only way that we can clinch OUR silver back. Motivate each other and come for practices. Our conductors and majorettes probably don't expect a sudden overnight change- from a bronze band to a gold band. All they need is everyone's cooperation and understanding. Lets improve together, as a band, to achieve what we aimed for all along.

Practice seriously. Music is the other way round, which you will learn faster when you practice at a slow speed. Dont ever think of combining sections or playing together at the tempo stated when you havent even cleared your OWN parts correctly. Remember, we must play LOD perfectly and the Set piece up to standard. Concentrate on these two pieces.

Well, now we will aim to make Band Camp 2009 worth everyone's time, enjoy and practice while we can.

Before SYF 2009, we have to video our drills, everyone should know this by now. This time, the drills are as follows. All drills include your instruments carried.

6. March Past

The March Past includes the whole band, and playing music in the squad. Mr Tan have decided on playing Marching Along though, so this is the time to teach your juniors some serious stuff. We must take the recommended 64-72 steps. That means we march in the squad for 64-72 steps and play music while marching. The video has to be done before 6 FEBRUARY 2009, as mentioned in the previous post.

Remember what we all learnt today, and apply it when time comes useful :)

TODAY, Band Practice day!

so, band started at 8.30am as usual. All of us reported at the canteen to prepare for the drills that was planned. but hohoho! there came mr fan shoo-ing us away from the canteen because he says that we, girls, are always very noisy and are disturbing those who are doing the o levels paper in the hall. :/ so, we really had to report back to the band room and waited.

At 8.45, Ma'am siewkim got everyone to settle down before she started to talk to us about the new band tee design. All of us agreed to the new design which she and Denise had design, so as soon as she gets the sample of the shirt, we will have our new tee soon! Comfirmed: shirt we chosen was black, with white print, and a red tie.

After she finished discussing with us, we also had a look at the concept of the band notice board that we have to do. It was filled with spongebob characters playing instruments! The irony in the design was good. Good job with the design, Felicia! Anyway, immediately after, Ma'am elysia came telling us that the olevels had ended so drills can officially start.

We fell in and Ma'am elysia started to change some of the commands and timing, we thought that the change was better if we keep it as a good habit... so, we just went on with the footdrills.

As we did not have any sectionals, so did not have any lunch but the Ma'ams were very nice to buy us food to eat :D

Hey band, Elysia here. I know that lately, most of you have been complaining about the new song, The Light of Dawn. Some of you just dont feel like playing that piece for SYF '09 next year and you'd rather play something else which is more challenging. But come on, before you even start complaining, give a thought to this question: What or who actually caused the instructors to give a second thought to our choice piece?

Didnt any of you thought that we, the bandsmen, were the ones who had indirectly led to this result? Didn't any of you feel guilty for complaining and 'blaming' the instructors for changing the song when we were the ones who caused this?

If none of us had been so stubborn as to contiunue with our 'Bad Habits' in playing BRS, we wouldnt even be facing this situation now... If we had actually tried to practice harder and be a little more hardworking during sectionals, we would already cleared BRS by now.

You all have to understand that the change of song is so that we dont continue with our mistakes. Don't you think that we shouldn't continue hanging on to BRS when we very well know that our sound is not up to standard. So, to prevent us from falling deeper towards something that we DONT anticipate for, we should just move on with another piece that we know that we can handle.

So for now, let's just give the instructors time to try out this song. They must have a reason to every decision they make, and I trust what they are doing. So why dont all of you also give it a try and practice for it. You wont know when the instructors might give us other chances to play other types of songs. But of course, if they do, you too have to work hard for it and dont let everything go back to the way our BRS was.

Come on band, please put in your effort and and work hard for anything that is coming up next. The instructors, clare and I cant do anything further to help this band unless YOU work hard for this band. So if you guys want to get the Silver that we aimed for, do something. DONT JUST SIT THERE AND WAIT FOR MIRACLES TO HAPPEN, FRANKLY, THEY DONT...

Now, that its the new start of the song, we should all do it the right way and not make further mistakes or, to be blunt, it's Game over. Think about this; Do you want to continue to dislike The Light of Dawn and not practice for it until the time when nothing can be done to salvage situation? Or do you want to move on and ensure that there is still the chance of us succeeding. Really, think about this. please stop giving us those responses like you did on wednesday when clare and I talked to you guys.

If you dont have any intention of working hard and commiting yourself to this, why did you join band in the first place? Don't give that excuse that it was forced on you. If it really was, dont you think that since you cant leave and you are already here, it becomes YOUR responsibilty, unknowingly? It is really time that you wake up and really do something. Speaking without actions don't bring you far..

Band on saturday : first holiday practice

Early one morning Mr Yea greeted us with warm-ups and suggested this song to be our choice piece. Upon getting the scores, we found out that, the song is easier and is a piece to sight-read instead. AND for young bands.

Do you guys really want to play this song? If some Bandsmen from other bands actually ask what choice piece you are playing, do you have the face to tell them " Oh, I am playing The Light of Dawn!" and would receive a sightly disheartened "Oh." as an answer instead of "Wow, you are playing Blue Ridge?? Its a really nice song!! I look forward to hearing you play! XD"

I am not saying that its not a nice song, its just that you guys should know you can do better than this. It is not easy to get that silver with a grade 2 piece but it is possible if you wake up and start practicing now. You guys should know by now what would happen if we never meet up to the conductors' expectations.

Okay, if this is really gonna be our choice piece, then we only can depend on the set piece to get that silver. Are you guys gonna wait until 12 november, and upon getting the piece, complain how difficult it is?

Its time for everyone to change their thoughts about band being a slacking CCA. Band is fun because you guys can slack and laugh and talk?? dream on man.

* edit: um dont get me wrong, I found The Light Of Dawn quite a nice piece but its kinda pathetic that we cant even sight-read a grade 2 piece well. We ought to do better than this. and we will prove to everyone especially to the conductors. ;)

We need to play only one out of the 2 overtures.

SYF dates: 30 March to 4 April and 6 April to 9 April
Venue: Singapore Conference Hall (damn it!)

Time limit for choice piece: 8 mins (as usual)
If time exceed 8 minutes, marks will decrease by 10%

Before SYF 2009, we have to video our drills, this short video has to be done before 6 FEBRUARY 2009.

At least 30 hours of drills for bands that want to enter SYF.

Band started early saturday morning, as usual, not many people came... D:

warm-ups carried out as usual when Mr Yea came. We are happy to see he had recovered from his sickness and in a surprisingly good mood.We were taught to learn the C major scale before actually learning the G major scale, so we ended up learning both. The More the Merrier. Anyways Mr Yea went through A Walk With McCarley again, and a few other songs like Tequila and say maybe play for Sec one Orientation next year, as every concert he conducts, the audience knows the song and shouts " Tequila!" at the right time. Thats because classical music dont appeal to Singaporeans much, so most of the audience in concerts are only Band members, then they ought to know that song.

He intro new songs to us, and went through, so we would have time to prepare for Sec one orientation next year and not last minute preperation again. For the first time, some of the Band members are taught how to do a Glissando on the new muppet song ( I forgot whats the name of that song ).

It was the last Band practice before the exams so everyone bring home instruments and must practice!!!

Whats with the thing for conductors to play pop songs these days...

( due to me having STM, i might get some of the parts for Monday's Band wrongly.. sorry! )

ANYWAYS!
Mr Tan came to Band, and started conducting warm ups. He tested the juniors and went through the Band test requirements with us. He gave out a piece for the Band to sight-read, called "Annie", some familiar lao oldies song that He really like alot. According to Him it is a nice piece though that song dont really appeal to some of us.

Somehow, He assumes the Band wants to sight-read more pieces(actually its really him that wants to), and went down to His car to get them. We were given a short break. He came along with this Japanese song, whatever the title is, we played it and we sounded horrible.

Then he gave out "High School Musical - We Are All In This Together" and say maybe we play it for sec one orientation next year but then we are like thinking why you give us this song, the sec ones next year wont probably join Band if thats so. We went through that song, then He started talking about how to get more sec ones into our Band next year.

After collecting back the scores, we went through Tempest Rising.

We had drills for the last half hour or so, And it was really messy and everything.

Band ended then.

MONDAY's Practice.

As usual, Ma'am clare went through the warm-ups. The speakers are all fixed up, all thanks to Ma'am Elysia! While conducting the warm-ups, Mr Tan arrived. We carried on and went through parts in I Recomend and the Four Quarter Rhythm Pattern which would be tested for the recruits. warm-ups and these only ended at around 4 plus.

Then Mr Tan took over and went through tuning and Blue Ridge Saga with us. He said that our BRS was horrible and that we might have to start from scratch again. It was the lack of practice. OH MY GOD. peeps, we better buck up. there's only 6 practices left! D: and the not so easy set piece is going to be released soon.

So, because warm-ups took up quite a lot of time, there wasnt much time left for us to practice more songs. Mr Tan stopped at around 5.35, then he started the talk about band stuff. After that, we ended band just like that.

Saturday practice was like the usual. Ma'am Clare was going through warm-ups with us until Mr Yea came and took over.

While on it, the tutors came in and help. Ms Rekkha was told to take some of the juniors and teach them, while Mr Nizam helped the percussion secion out as usual. Mr Yea told the recruits they would be having a test on some of the scales and excercises, though the seniors manage to skip theirs last time. Hee hee. Good luck then!

Mr Yea went through A Walk With McCarley that he introduced to us last week, and just told us that it was a funeral song dedicated to someone. We were kinda freak out as its the seventh month already and we are playing this song so the ghost of Mr McCarley will haunt us?

He gave out a new song called "Believe", an ending theme, when he found out that such a nice song was left lying in the Band library for five years untouched. We went through it and at the last few minutes of Band he gave out "YMCA", but we sight read horribly, though it was not a difficult song.

It was early and Band just ended like that. When we were told to fall in, Clare led Mr Rama out as we have to talk about... private stuff. Ho. I wonder how Clare manage to do that anyway.

Monday's Band.

Ma'am Clare went through the usual warm ups with us and due to the lack of time and practice for the national day, we went on practice the National Anthem. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!!!! YEY.

Mr Tan went through that song and added the neccessary stuff, and the march-pass by the percussion section. Ah, I know you guys are sleepy on Saturday mornings to listen to Mr Yea's "lectures"(quoted from some of the blogs) but have to take practices more seriously. Other Bands are really catching up! Not just that, the local Band scene is getting more competitive, even with other countries. So foreign judges, would of course be more strict in their judging every event. Its totally different from last year, with a Bronze medal not demanding to achieve, but now even if we play alot better then last time, we still might not accomplish this silver medal aim.
The reason that I am saying this is because everyone is so slumberous on saturdays mornings...Mr Yea should deserve more respect than what we always do, so lets just follow his guides even though he said it a million times, so if we pursue it, it would work out. Don't complain being taught and reminded more than usual, should complain about getting taught less!

Wait, Its a bad habit to complain in the first place...

Mr Tan's random decision of playing Tempest Rising was actually because He was inspired by the SYF Primary school central judging this year, I think. So he abruptly took Tempest Rising out, conduct it for the second time. So its 2/8 times already, lets all feel DISTURBED BY THIS!! SO WE'LL PRACTICE. YEYYY.

Day of the Rumbling

Wednesday, yesterday, was a day of physical strain and dust bunnies.

Band started at 2:45PM, with Ma'am Elysia informing the band that we were to be stretching our unexcercised muscles for the day in moving some stuff around in the room and organizing the boxes of files kept on the tables. The piano had to be relocated to the area where the computer was, and the computer had to be placed somewhere else. Or removed, whichever happened to the beautiful contraption. Once moving the piano out of the niche it had settled in for a very long time, we discovered

DUST BUNNIES. And a book swathed in thick layers of dust and (?) hairs. And of course, a yellow artificial petal or two from the fake flowers atop the piano.

Naturally, they were swept away and the piano was moved by a mass of bandmates all gathered together to do the heavy task of lifting up the piano.

There were two long lines trailing from where the piano was rested (not having reached its destination yet) to the spot where it once stood. Whether they were scratches or lines made by the copious amount of dust accumulated on the wheels, I don't really know. Well, d'uh. It's not like I was staring at the lines intently.

The rest of the bandmates organized the files and removed the papers inside them. This entire process involved a lot of dust and sneezing. I think I saw a silverfish squished in between two files, but then again it might be some other disgustingly silver-ish insect that met its untimely demise between the two files.

Finally, at 3:30PM (or in actuality, 3:55+PM), the band was able to practice since the O'levels had ended at 3:30PM.

We practiced the National Anthem for a while, during which Alumni Clarissa Ma'am commended the Trombones, woodwinds and single Cornet player that day on their unison, harmony and sound respectively. She also gave advice on the aspects of some instruments' playing and the band co-operation in general that would really help the band if we do actually listen and follow through the stuff that she pointed out. (Stuff like general discipline, a desire to improve the band to try to play a Gold sound, and the history of band briefly.)

Blue Ridge Saga then followed up, and then Band concluded with Mdm Alya telling the band that we had to put in the effort needed to sustain the band and the Band CCA Board achieving 87/100 points (fourth), and three other CCAs which all tied in for first place with 91/100 points. Darn close.

And, that's it. During the announcements there was some brief questioning of who was going to be doing Term 4's Notice Board and the Band banner, but it was decided that that was to be decided another day.

Band on Monday

(really sorry for the late post)

ooohyea. it started at around 3pm when Mr Tan came. Today, the harmony director was shifted to right where the conductor is sitting. At first, Ma'am Clare carried out the warm-ups but mr tan intercepted it and did it himself. So the warm-up actually lasted till 4 when we switched to play Blue Ridge Saga. Mr Tan said that we have improved but I am sure that he might just be saying it to make us happy, motivated? because just last week, Mr Yea said that we are still stagnant there with no improvement.

Mr Tan was a little sadistic yesterday. He went on talking about how we would all be blasted off by mines if we were in a mine field, and said that it would be a wonderful thing. gosh.

Anyway, he had to leave early so he left at 5pm like that. No wonder he was well dressed up. Whatever it is, we were given a break and sectionals started at 5.15pm. BRS, QPM and National Anthem were the few that we had to practice. by 5.45 like that, there was a combine and at 6.03pm, we were off packing up. Mhmm... so fall out and home we went. :D

There was "O" level oral after school, so Band practice was delayed..

Meanwhile, we chose the Band T-shirt designs! Due to some of the designs are not up yet, we are not able to finalise the designs. The designs were great, but some of us are dissapointed that only a few of the Band members who designed did not put in much effort. I am talking about only some of them, you probably know whether you are putting any effort into this Band yourself. If you do it just for the sake of it instead of contributing ideas, why join Band then?

Okay, Band finally started at 4pm when the oral ended. YAY! Ma'am Elysia conducted warm-ups and we played. and played, though we sounded raw and horrible.
Then we splited up for secionals, when we combined again, sounded at least a bit better. Yeah, only a bit. +.-

Played Blue Ridge Saga, something that we havent played in a long time. Okay, Band, what happened? didnt you played not bad during 70th? where did all that motivation go? or was it just because there was audience?... Well, thats not a valid excuse if thats so.

Then Band ended at 6 pm..

Heh, where did everything went?

Today, the new late-coming punishments was implemented but there were still a few late-comers. Then, Mr yea came at around 8 and started doing warm-ups with us. BUT just not a while later he started to have a talk to us, about the connection of the main band and the juniors, mis-communication and etc problems. So now we finally know what is the Recruit Officer supposed to do and what we as seniors are supposed to do to help the recruits. If we go on having this problem between the main and junior band, I may say that we would get to nowhere.

So, after the talk and etc, we had a normal combined practice. Sir actually brought two new songs for us to play and they were a little easier as he wanted the full band including the juniors to play with us. The first song was The Rainbow Connection while the second was From the Land of Rock and Roll. Although the juniors still struggle with them, if they work hard, they are bound to be able to play them.

so as we played the two new songs, the time just passed and soon it was like 11.20. hence, we went through the national anthem once and ended the band. DAMN, the tutors came for nothing much. Waste their time.

So now, we dont even know whether the juniors are playing for National Day, dont know if they are merged with the Main Band. I dont think they should be played around with, so just agree on either side, and it will be solved.

Olevels sucked full time. it affected our Band practice on wednesday, then we cant practice the instrument that we LONGED to play after a long break. what a stupid barrier to stop us improving -.-

While the juniors we being tested by the DM, BM and sectional leaders to play the Bb scale, We played some ice breaker games... though we know each other quite well already. Some did forfeits when they got hit by the whacko "stick" more than three times. Haha, people got saboed.

And to our dearest Drum Major, we loved your chicken dance.

Ah, Sec ones, you guys must buck up!! cant afford to fail the next test again. (: For those who passed, congrats and dont stop there. GOGOGO.

Its irritating when other CCAs that performed in the 70th Anniversary already resumed their normal practices. So why must we have a break? Well, the Centre Stage is the main CCA performing and they ought to deserve a good rest, but We, only playing the background sound effects, and a small part of the whole thing, SOO DO NOT DESERVE ONE. anyways, everyone probably loves Band too much we dont even want it-.-

And, as we are playing for National Day, we ought to have to practice early. Those who brought their instruments and mouthpieces home, good job. Dont use "No Band Practices" as an excuse not to play well for the National Anthem. DONT LET OUR COUNTRY DOWN!

Remember the story Mr Yea told us about the person who accidentally played his part in the National Anthem wrongly cause he was so sleepy, he had to be sent to army prison or something like that......arh nvm.

So during our next practices we must must must work harder so as to make up for the times and practices we missed this week.

so.... there was band practice today once again.

WEll, our dear juniors have officially joined us in the main band and so , together, we must all work hard together for next year's SYF. YES. So now that you are all with us in the main band, its time for serious work. we must all work hard together in the playing of BRS alright. And the set piece lah. Of course we dont zombie on only two songs, it would be boring if thats so.

whatever it is, OUR MAIN AIM IS TO GET THE SILVER MEDAL, like what Sir said.

anyways, first thing Mr Tan did was to change the whole arrangement of the band. now the cornets section are in the second row with the euphonium and the french horn section sandwiching them. And the percussion instruments are rearranged. He must have had his reason for doing so. After so, Ma'am Clare carried out with us Concert Band Clinic for warm-ups while Sir went out with the trombone section for a talk. then after that, He came back and we played the National Anthem once through.

Here comes the not very nice part of the day. as expect since saturday when Mr Tan said that we are going to have a talk, He scolded the whole band including the juniors. Well, I guess you all would understand more now? so we must all work together with sir and the leaders to make this band a better place. Then, the Ma'am Elysia and Ma'am Clare went through with us new punishments, rules and etc that they had set with the whole commitee. the new punishments are really not as lenient, so you dont want your legs to break due to the numerous 'CONE-CLAPS'! haha!

So, many so-called new stuff are going to start from next week onwards. :) let's hope everything will go fine.

70th sneak preview

Yop this is Hay here.

Today, it was the Sneak preview of 70th Anniversary... As usual, we did all the same stuff, except it was scarier with the audience around. Before that, we were carrying out heavy books to the Bandroom, set chairs, and changed into our uniforms.

Alumnis came and performed with us, but some were joining the audience instead. Mr Tan came and everyone went through the whole play together as rehearsal first.. As everyone was a little tired, the rehearsal wasnt exactly serious, as everyone afraid they will tire themselves out for the later performance in the evening.

We had a break after the rehearsal in the Band room, eating Hotdog Bread and Milo!! mmmm. we were told not to play our instruments for the same reason too, not to tire ourselves. When Mr Tan came back to the Band room, he conducted Blue Ridge teh slow part, making sure everyone played not badly.

Then, the time came. We went up to the hall and played. yeah like, how many times already, i am kinda sick of this-.- We played a little bit better than the rehearsal. The audience was more hyper than the matinee's as there are more students involved and they laughed at the most unappropriate parts o.o When the whole thing ended, it was like about nine already and everyone was dead.

We went back to the Band room, changed and went home. GAH i am so tired now.
Oh yeah, it was Eugenia's birthday! we sang her a birthday song.

Monday, it was 70th Anniversary rehearsal again.

In the morning, we had a short meeting with Elysia Ma'am and Clare Ma'am in the canteen about what we are supposed to do during recess. So, we did what we were told to and then after school, we rushed to eat and brought our instruments up to the hall.

Rehearsal was as usual, except they setted up the lightings and the whole scene became much nicer. We were bothered by the lighting shone on us though.We had to play Kids Klassix, BRS, and the ensemble had to do their "things". We were not at all coordinated with the other CCAs, cause some of them were rushing, it was really messy (Both musically and physically). dont really know whether the everybody can make it by thurday's performance....
We ended at 6pm+ then we packed up our instrument, but left our stands and scores in the hall (as they are going to lock it) and then went home.

Hi Bandits! I am here to blog about Monday and Wednesday.

MONDAY:
Band as usual. Mr tan came in with His coffee and started drinking. Then he discussed some stuff with Mdm Alya before starting practice with us. Ma'am Clare was halfway going through Concert Band Clinic so He allowed her to continue before starting Band, at the same time coaching her.

Then we started playing Kidz Klassix, but we seemed a little tired and slack. The playing went on and on until Mr Tan felt a little pissed when the band continued to remain irresponsive. So he walked out of the room and called Ma'am elysia out with him. We were told to practice Kidz Klassix properly. Then ma'am came back in and allowed us to a 15 min break. OH not again. Mr tan became so angry that he left the band room...well actually He had some personal matters to attend to instead...

We went on with sectionals and we have to practice our parts properly. Mdm Alya gathered the people playing the ensemble in the storeroom and started to create thier parts with this fascinating music notation software. Lunch was good, but it was nothing compared to Band. Now we have energy to play better, whoot.

(And when walking back to school, we saw many orange pointy things with white stripes and flat bases.)

Mr Tan came and conducted Kidz Klassix, now we have filled ourselves full with Shrooms Burger and Fish Fillet, we are able to concentrate.
We went through Blue Ridge, and Mr Tan thought we might memorise and play it while closing our files. But after that He seemed to have forgotten...

WEDNESDAY (TODAY):

So anyways, today's practice was for the 70th anniversary. so all the main band mambers had to report at 8.15 am for preparation of the rehearsal. The junior band remained in the bandroom for the practice with mr yea.

Then warmed-up and tuned by 8.30 so that Ma'am clare could go on with a combined band warm-up. Then at 8.45, we were ready to go up the hall carrying our instruments.

Up there, we just played what we were supposed to and stop when we are told to. For the whole time, we were mostly doing nothing. It was really messy when Ma'am Clare conducted the ensemble and the Band at the same time, as we were told to split up. -.- It was a bad idea.

BUT the whole rehearsal only ended at 1 plus, and nothing much was done. Some had lunch late and then there was nothing much to do in the afternoon session cause there's so little time left. So we only had a while of combined rehearsal as a whole band. We tried playing Blue Ridge with our files closed and it was not bad. We were told to memorise the songs that we are playing for 70th cause it would be dark during the performance and cant see anything.

It was really a boring day, we would have spend much time practicing instead.

HEY THERE EVERYONE>~~~~

The pig is back after a while of hiatus. Whatever it is, I am here to blog about band on MONDAY and TODAY!(wednesday)

MONDAY:

Mr Yea was the conductor of the day. But mr tan also came for a while to settle some stuff, only for about 1 hr? can't really remember. Anyway, Mr Yea went through with us Four Quarter Rhythm Pattern with his methods like saying:

bell, jingle, ?mun ne ru?, watermelon, banana, once-a, popeye-the and errr, others?

Whatever it is, I am sure it was quite good. Then we went through some parts of the rehearsal of the 70th anniversary. Parts like doing a spoilt fanfare, BRS, KK and ensemble parts by the saxophone section and some brass instruments. However these are still not that confirmed until the next combined rehearsals with the other CCAs.

ok... then after that i forgot what really went on. the next vivid thing on my mind is lunch~ everyone looks forward to lunch you know....But we look forward to Band more.

After lunch, was sectionals once again and a last combined band rehearsal at 2.30pm. that was the end of MONDAY.

TODAY (WEDNESDAY) :

Mr yea was once again the conductor of the day. alright then, had warm-ups as usual with concert band clinic. the sec 1s were also playing with us so it was good experience for them. so then went through Four Quarter Rhythm Pattern again. then had combine playing with KK witht the sec 1s. they are also playing with us for national day i think. well, then, we had some sectionals from 10.30 to about 11.45. after that mr yea came abck for a last KK cmbine b4 it was lunch~

todays afternoon session was a little different from the others. we watched a show called Stomp out loud. its a video showcasting STOMP. they uses all sorts of stuff to create music such as cans, engine, ladder, broom, apple, cards and much much much more. whatever it is, we MUST ALSO BE AS CREATIVE AS THEM! kay...... i know that was uncalled for.

then that was the end of band.

Ello~ Finally. Im here. To blog about WEDNESDAY. THE Wednesday.

Its stick. Now with her pet, TOOTHPICK!

MORNING:
We arrived. (of course)
And then DM and BM both had remedial, so we were taken by Siew Kim Ma'am and Tessa Ma'am. We set up out instruments, and then warmed-up. Soon Mr Yea came. We practiced for awhile, and then more of the seniors had to go for remedial. (actually, almost all of the sec 3s) So, with them gone, we continued to run through the songs like Kids Klassix.

AFTERNOON:
We had our lunch. When we went there it wasn't actually raining, but when we were back, ohboy.. The rain was pouring and lots of us just ran back to the band room all drenched. Then on the way back we saw some seniors going for their lunch because their remedial ended late. Lucky them, when they came back it was all sunny.

NEAR END:
So we practiced and practiced because it was sectionals. And soon, we were called back to pack up, and head home.

MONDAY~

Band started at 1pm instead of 9am because there was the "O" levels goin on. So we all reported at 12.30pm, but, we could only set our chairs and stands and take attendence. We could not set our instruments because Dm and Bm instructed us not to do so.

So only at 1pm, instruments were set and warm-up started by ourselves. but not long later, Mr Tan arrived. Then the teachers -in-charge arrived too. just as we thought we could start playing our instruments, Mr Tan and Mdm Alya were discussing about some stuff about the Seventieth Anniversary. Then Mr Tan instructed us to play parts of BRS, White River Canyon, as it might be used to replace Grand March "The Royal Wedding", so we dont need to trouble ourselves learning a new piece in a short time. The Main Band was told to play Kidz Klassix for the Junior Band for them to have an idea what it sounds like, as He decided it is going to be thier first combined Band piece.

After that all the scores of Kidz Klassix were collected back and sir allowed us for a break for 10 mins. After break ended, Sir, the teachers-in-charge and DM were outside the room dicussing some stuff so we just went on practicing by ourselves.

Soo after, Mr Tan came in and started testing the Sec 1s some stuff. Suddenly we were told that some weird teachers from dance wanted to hear what BRS and WRC sounds like , as they wanna create the Dance steps for the 70th Anniversary Performance. So we played and played. then Kids Klassix were given back to us and committee meeting was called for with the SLs. So we practiced and thought the sec 1s how to play Kidz Klassix.

after dunno how long, the committee came back with Sir and we went on for a little longer before we packed up and fall in for home.

so that was all. i think i left out some parts but oh well.

We went in the Bandroom late cause no one came and opened it. So we set up chairs and our instruments. The new Recruit Officer marked our attendance and Clare went through a some of the Concert Band Clinic with us.

Mr Yea came and took over. He seemed as though He didnt knew anything that happened. Introduced us this Wedding March that we are supposed to play for 70th Anniversary and said it was not easy but we only have to play for a few bars of it.

The rest of the practice was taken over by the Tutors, while everyone had sectionals. The Tutors are great and all. We all learnt at least something.

Then Band ended and everyone can go home and sleep. And practice.

Go spend your weekends perfecting your songs.. the articulation, intonation... everything.
If you come back on Monday getting scolded theres no excuse that you didnt bring home your mouthpieces and practice.

They would be many concerts during June hols. Hope you would attend at least one of them. A $12 or so is definitely worth it.

Half of April has passed and it's now the preparation period for our Mid-year's. Good luck to everyone for your mid-year examination. I'm sure everyone will ace it -- that is, if you study. If you haven't started, then what are you waiting for?! Get those lazy butts off the couch and your eyes thats staring at these text now and study. Whatchu' wating for? Santa to give you a nice big chocolate cookie?

Anyways, moving on the the current thing. I have changed the layout last night. I had a sudden urge to make a new layout. Its a plain one this time, not blog styled, but full paged. It looks funny, yes I know. It looks plain, yes I know. I suck, yes I know. Sorry for the people whose faces are not in it. Its really VERYVERY hard to find a picture with everyone and use it. Even if i have one, I might find it hard to work with o___O Plus this layout had a certain width limit for the picture, I had no choice to cut off some legs at the bottom and some stuff at the sides. Sorry. Really, really, really, sorry.

I hope next time i can provide a better layout. But of course, Stick will fail once again. Yes, she's pessimistic. Byebye, Stick's off to munch on some chocolate.

GREAT BOOK OF RECORDS: SJC CONCERT BAND - 14TH APRIL 2008. [1] DAY/S BEFORE POP.
MONDAY. POP REHEARSAL.

Oh look! Everyone's marching along so fine, and we're just blowing our stuff. The atmosphere of the POP. The emotions. We, the music, are going to be the ones reducing our schoolmates to tears just by providing a nice depressing/awaiting-your-future/s tune. See the power we have? (And of course, we're ever so overlooked by the general school-public due to unfortunate circumstances.) I would speak my mind but I'm not supposed to say anything derogatory about any particular thing at all, so no, nothing about how a certain secton had to withstand the pressures of difficult demands.

I offer my regards to the marchers, because they're actually quite stressed. They're not going to be blowing their lungs out, but they're going to be the main program. Gonna be watched. Gonna be passing out. Their moment of glory. Marching along hard in these rehearsals. Standing all the while, walking/marching/running around. Tiring, you know?

Our rehearsal today was a physically draining one that is sort of a build-up to tomorrow's lovefest. Interesting, no? We won't really be the ones crying, (unless you're close to the Seniors in question) since we've gone through the monotonous and dull part of the rehearsals, so the moment's ruined for us. No worries though. You can have your own celebratory pah-tays after the POP is done and weep your eyeballs out of their sockets by reminding yourself that 'Hey, my senior's just passed out of our CCA! Shouldn't I be crying? Oh yes. I'll start crying now.'

Seniors and juniors alike, are you excited/depressed/mournful/fermenting/hyped or high and bundles of emotion? If you're not, then shame on you. You have just joined the exclusively Jackass club (not a bad thing, actually) that has members that are just plain tired and waiting for the entire thing to be over and done with. Not to say that I'm not sad about the passing out. (Actually I'm just... not-really-emotional? I guess I'm slightly rocked, but not to a great extent.) And I can't tell you if I'm passing out or not because that would so ruin the little secrecy thing we've been abiding to, hm?

So, I would like to say "Fare thee well, good Seniors, and may thee have good luck and fair wind on your voyage to your destinies." Or something like that. But no, that's a little too epic and dramatic, so we'll settle for 'See you around school sometime.'

As for tomorrow, feel a bit happy that we're being released early(ier) for preparation. It's not everyday we get an excuse to skip lessons, after all.

Remember, bring along your Band Uniform and those lumps of courtshoes (no stockings unless you want to be anal about it). And. Uhh. Stuff you need to bring.

The rehearsal started at 4.00...
Cause everyone was slow, we started late. Be faster next time. We would be hot and sweaty if we wear our blazers in the hot sun, so decided to leave them on the chairs we sit in the Hall. ...Well, thats what you expect when you join Band. Get use to the sweatiness. The canteen chairs were arranged at the courtyard for us to sit... Then we began rehearsing.

When the Hall was available, we were told to go up. Marie was appointed to conduct for Millenium song, as DM have to do the slow march. So it went on. The band was soft. Bass drum was told to play softer as they cant hear the commands.
We rehearsed for 3 times, it was late already. We fell out at 8 pm.
Hmm, I wish we can wear boots instead.

In the afternoon, we set chairs and instruments, settle down when told.
We listen the recordings in the CD that Griselda burnt for us, giving some little reaction at the end of every song. We were told to practice the songs our own. When the remedial lessons in the school ended, some sections went out to practice but were chased back to the Bandroom by Mr Rama.(Its the neighbour thing again.)

When Mr Tan came He went through the songs that we are performing for POP. Said we sounded rough and heavy.
Due to Exams, we wont be seeing the Conductors for many weeks. So during the Band hols we have to practice, or we would deprove. (:

Pop rehearsal

Fri school ended early.
So everybody have sufficent time to grab a lunch. Everyone set their instruments and went up to the Third Floor cause AngKlung was using the Bandroom and the Hall was occupied by Badminton. So DM Mui Ghern and Emmelyn guided the Band to playing to POP songs and it wasnt perfect.

Then after much carrying of the instruments we decided to play in the classroom on the same level. The Percussionists had to play outside while watching DM conduct. We settle ourselves down and played. Everybody agreed it was horrible.We went for a break and came back, bringing the instruments down to the canteen. And then we rehearsed March Together and Millenium song. Then we went for a five mins break again, cause everyone was tired and not used to it. Stephanie and Minqin had to go to the courtyard and play the beats for the POP so we played in the canteen together with them.

We went back to the Bandroom and the day ended.

I AM LIKE GONNA BLOG ABOUT BAND FROM WEDNESDAY TO SATURDAY.

WEDNESDAY:

ok, it was supposingly to be sectionals n every wed but this week, we had something different. it was a day for packing for alllll of us. mainly, only the brass section was supposed to pack while the woodwinds were decorating the band notice board. but because the materials came late, so everyone ended up packing their cupboards. all of our cupboards were in a great mess and we packed till our hands almosts broke and eyes almost popped while sorting all the scores out. i hate packing and will never do that again... some sections just finished the packing so early while the others lasted for many many hours.... when everyone stopped packing they started have fun and making loads of noise. so Mdm alya came in and started giving us work to do. she also told us of something which we must do which was the creation of labels of our names on the chairs. so when those labels are all done, we would all have our very own labelled chair. isnt that cool? yeah right....
so then when 6pm came, everyone started leaving one by one.

Thursday:

it was awards ceremony rehearsal that day. we all got ready early and started waiting outside of the hall for the rehearsal to start. but in the end they told us that it would only start at like 4.30pm. so then we started dispersing into many places doing the things we wanted to do like homework and the unfinished notice board decoration, while some of us stayed at third level to take care of the instruments. so at around 4.3o we went back into positions to get ready and we played. then after that waited for the finale to come and went on stage to sing. right. here comes the irritating part. The teacher-in-charge actually pointed out the Band for not singing and smiling during the finale even when most of us did.Then she said that if we dont smile and sing, They will take us out from the whole thing. DAMN. And when reading out the CCAs they practically forgotten about the Band. Mdm Alya conforted us by saying that it was the Band's 'tradition' to be not serious during rehearsals until it was the real thing. so then they had another one more rehearsal for the finale and we were sent home at aroung 6.30pm.

FRIDAY:

it was the full- dress rehearsal today. we were released early form class to prepare for the rehearsal but then, the bandroom was used by the aesthetic class and so we could not practice and had to change in the bandroom quietly. so after everyone changed, we all settled down at mdm alya's homeroom and practiced singing the finale song to prevent being scolded again. This time, everyone sang sang and sang. then mdm alya brought us through this mind therapy thing which i forgot the name to prepare us for the rehearsal. after that, at 1.35pm, we all went back to the music room to set our instruments, warm-up and get ourselves tuned. The teacher said that everything was alright, except we have to play louder.

SATURDAY:

We same kinda early (cause though some of us were late, we werent punished)and we sat there crapping... Some of us set our instruments but some were just not motivated enough. We played the Chromatic scale as a Band, then we were instructed to change into our Band Uniform. Then to test out her light-stick, BM Melodi tried it out in the dark as she conducted the Traditional Fanfare. It works fine.

We crapped in small groups. Some of us were already hungry then even though we ate lunch, so we ask Mr Rama whether we could eat the muffins and drink the milo that the Bandies brought up for us. So one by one we came up and took our food. Yum. After that we carried our instruments and went up to the third floor to play the Fanfare. Mdm Alya and the rest were happy in our playing (we thought so too, since we were blasting our lungs out)so everyone cheered. YAY. The light-stick didnt help though, many didnt notice it. And we sat there and crap again while Elysia, Vivian and Stephanie went up for the prize giving and the CS performance. The DM and the BM went around to take some pics with us to keep as memory as they are gonna pass out soon. WE ROCKS.

then we put make-up. suck.
And we went up and sang the Finale and the end. Alumnis came Back! (: So we went to the canteen to get free food and our dinner was solved.

That MS was supposed to blog about Monday, perhaps she had forgotten about it.
And I am blogging today.

So I will sum it all up into one entry.

Yesterday we went to the reahearsal for a while but before that Mr Tan scolded us cause we were here early and yet we did not start setting the chairs and our instruments, and start tuning. "So only until the magical '2.45' then you all can start going in the storeroom ah." So we were all quiet until He called the Brass section, Percussion to stay in the Bandroom and Woodwinds section outside to practice. Before He could actually start,the phone rang and then He told the woodwinds section to get in the Bandroom and told everyone(without their instruments, cept Perc section need to bring windchimes for the sound effect for Centre Stage) to go downstairs for the rehearsal. Mr Tan was angry He cant continue Band practice. ): He stayed in the Bandroom and taught the Percussion sec twos.

Then the whole rehearsal thingy was a waste of time. The Band came back, and Mr Tan suddenly got strict and serious with us and pointed the obvious mistakes (that He didnt actually do before). I am actually kinda happy about this haha.

Then He got angry when the two perc seniors didnt came back after a long while cause they are the ones doing the sound effects... and they complained about it anyways. He wanted them to come down.. so He sent DM Mui Ghern. They were nearly out of breath when they came back.

Okay i shant rant about Mon any more... The rest i cant really remember. Except Mr Tan talked bout his daughter being funny and all(: .And his body languages told us we played horribly.

Tues is a horrible and tiring day. The end.

Those who are performing for the Awards ceremony, Bring the following items on Mon.

Sec 2s: Bring your School Skort, court shoes(black with heels), and the School blouse (which you will be wearing to sch on rehearsal days).

Sec 3s: Bring your Band Skort, court shoes, tie, and the School blouse.

Sec 4s & 5s: Bring your Band Skort, long-sleeved blouse, tie, court shoes.

As for Sec twos, its better buy court shoes as you are gonna wear it for later occasions. Or you can borrow them if you dont have any. Its those flat-heel ones. Not those pokey pokey sharp-heel ones. Musnt have any designs on.

The BRICK is here cause Hay told her to blog about monday as she thought that you all might be sick of her blogging all the time. SO HERE IS BRICK! :) anyway, she was busy yesterday so can only do it now. heehee...

so anyway, MONDAY BAND PRACTICE~

well, as per normal, Mr Tan came for practice with us. Right at the start of Band practice, we had our warm-ups in our own sections. Then Mr Tan brought out the Saxophone section to the classroom beside the bandroom to check on them. oh well, so the rest of us just stayed in the bandroom and we practice with the help of seniors conducting.

Then, around 4.30pm. Mr Tan came back to the room with the saxphonists and he gave us all a break. though it was one, we end up praticing instead. At around 5pm, We finally had our full combined practice with Mr Tan. First song that we went through, BRS. then we were going through bar 21 onwards when He asked the Saxophone to play those few bars. He said that they all played very well and was one of the sections which could get the articulation out well. He must have heard those portions when He check on them earlier on. anyway kudos to them. :)

Anyway, it was reaching at around 6pm when Mr Tan finally saw the time and quickly switched to playing QPM. so we went through and through and through. He said we played like possessed people. i cant really remember what happened. but oh well....

so we packed up and fall in to get ready to get home. i think thats all. oh and the brass will be playing for the Awards ceremony on the 29th March. the end.

Something went wrong with blogger, the entry which Brick typed earlier bout Wednesday was not saved or published.

stupid blogger.

Anyways its not much. Mr Tan conducted the Main Band and Mr Yea taught the Sec ones in the AVA room. Cause other rooms were occupied.
Main Band played CBC, Mr Tan got frustrated cause a perc/percs gave qian bian look and didnt play well. poor Mr Tan. I wanna punch her face... You better know who you are, qian bian girl. Actually some didnt thought CBC was boring, in fact it was fun. Before He walked out, He ask the band whether we want to play fun music and have fun (not "boring" warm ups like CBC) or come and build the band into a better one. So BM agreed agreed half of each. Well, arent having fun playing warm ups. TO ME LAH. (:

Then He go AVA room check out the juniors. Told us to take a break.
Thought that juniors were cute.

Then came back and gave us scolding again. He picked up a phone call, talking about what He wanna eat for lunch. eggs, chicken, vege. no beef please. Said our Band make Him happy and angry cause after that He joked to us. So ironic.

Practiced BRS. Said we improved a bit (only).
THEN THAT DARN DREADED TWELVE OCLOCK CAME. They went.

We supposed to have catering of food but in the end we got the canteen to do it at a resonable price. The food was nice. Though it did not suit some bandies's taste.

After lunch , we were told to rinse our mouth before we play. Then we had sectionals and practiced. and practiced. and practiced.

The end. I cant rmb everything that happened after that.

oh, Mdm Alya had a talk with us.. about minimising our sound and be considerate cause there were complaints. And she said our attendance was good, which contradicts what Mr Tan said. Said about playing some Wedding march for 70th.

Yo bandies.
Sorry we havent been updating cause Brick was busy. (:
Only a few went as many had CIP and the Suzhou trip then the band very less people only. Cause the band room was opened late, band started half an hour later. Aww. Mr Yea then took the sec ones out as usual.

Emmelyn and Jaclyn conduct BRS and QPM. Help us with the songs. Nothing much happend actually. 10.30 had sectionals, went to practice our pieces.

Full band yay. Mdm Alya played the cornet but she died off at her solo in QPM and Mr Yea played the drumset. They were great.Then we played louder heh. Band end then we fall out, while Mdm Alya called the sec ones to her room.

Lets welcome the two new sec ones!! Anabelle (euph) & Hui Wen(horn).

If you guys dont wanna play BRS, wanna play harder song then practice your BRS until its perfect luh.(:

Many seniors nv come, got CIP.
Mdm Alya came with the keys late, went in late.
So like she said this was a chance to know who was suitable for the next leaders, cause not much seniors came and whether we can manage our own sections well without the help of them.
Got some complaints from a neighbour beside our sch that the Band was too noisy, wth.
Dont know how to appreciate noise then why buy a house here, you are the one of the only ones who compalain loh. So its not our fault. We also not having band everyday.

Mr Yea came in and took the juniors out to Mdm Alya's homeroom for practice.
We stayed in the band room for sectionals. We practice the songs though some people got bored and started to go other sections and practice with them. Then of course they will talk. Tried to play Queen's Park together and with the help of the metronome and the Drumset, so we tried our best not to stop halfway through the song.

Went for 10 mins break. came back, practice moremore.

Many people want to play Chorale and Jubiloso for SYF. Grade 3 song :)

11.30 came and seniors told us to fall in. Made a joke out of Elysia "Sir". Whoa, that natural born leader man. And then we had to demonstrate the fall out to the new recruits. And we went home and practice more.

Mr Tan was so cool, He told us to go fer sectionals.

Want us to practice BRS, though some of us got abit bored of it and went to practice other songs. ahem. He went around brass section and taught them. Then like 5 oclock or so, combine band.

Told us to take out our QPM, then we are like eh practicing BRS just then but why we are playing QPM now. But who cares, we did practice, did we? We sounded better than last time, but still not good enough. Mr Tan was lenient. He said I dont care how horrible you play but I want to play this song! Aw. So not to embarrass ouselves, we must try hard. But dont play for the sake of playing it of course.

Then came came along BRS. Time was not long, so He just stopped right before the 6/8 time signature there. He was like asking everybody who likes BRS and wants BRS to be SYF09 choice piece. Surprisingly, some of us didnt want it to be. Told us to practice songs on Wed. cant wait. YAY BAND.

in the morning:
all of us were sitting in a huge huge huge 'rectangle' like having a grand feast cos none of the teachers came to open the door for us. haha! with DM mui ghern and venisa on the two sides... then as the people arrive for band practice, the 'table' becomes longer, longer and longer. so funny.

Practice:
had to do sectionals as Mr Yea want to coach the new sec 1 juniors. so we practiced Tumaco and Queen's Park Melody. then the SLs had to let juniors try out the instruments again. finally, the placement of the juniors in the sections have been settled. so the whole day was just practicing for us. but it was fun. :)anyway, towards the end of the practice, the neighbours actually complained that we were too noisy and came to school to look for ms ng. like, what can we do if its too loud. that is naturally expected from a band. so we had to pack up early and so band ended on the dot at 12.

juniors sec 1.

Band started at 2.45pm on wed, the juniors were supposed to come that day. Cause there was remedial for some of us and the juniors, Committtee ans SLs tried to entertain the new juniors until all can start at 3.45, while the rest had sectionals. Practiced Tumaco and Queen's Park.

All the juniors finally came and we started. The SLs and Committee introduced themselves to them, played something on their instruments to show them how the sound was like. We gave them each our welcome gift and splitted them into groups of fours or fives and visit the sections. Some were active, (those who put band as 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice) and werent even interested in trying them out. They a bit anti-social... like " why am i here in the first place, its wasting my time".

With all the people going around in the band room... some of us took the chance to try out other people's instruments and after that got punished. Learn from mistakes bah, cannot repeat the same thing like what we did 2 times this year liao.

So we got them to move from one section to another. Its was fun trying to introduce to them the different kinds of instruments(to those hyper ones)but the others like dont want to try, or looking at other sections wanna try other instruments.

Its was okay, until the fact that DM scolded us infront of the juniors for our noise level and the fact that we took a long time to fall in. Can try better one!!! Dont keep on talking uneccessarily, after band you can talk as much as you want.

I am happy at the fact that you guys are listening to band songs and being devoted... Its just that talk to much about band.

I no time to blog, might wanna edit and add something to this next time.

It was fun, maybe cause i like lesser people. :)

Mr Tan before practice went somewhere so he wasnt as punctual as usual. But he still got here on time.
We did our own warm ups and Mr Tan ask us practice Queen's Park Melody. Some were trying thier best, but some *ahem* was just sitting there observing the scenery or something. Waste your time.

We played through with Mr Tan.

Oh yeah, I notice you guys actually make the effort to concentrate during Mr Tan's lessons, then play better hor, Then Mr Yea lesson heck care then pwn band, nv play seriously. Eh, where got like that, like that how the band can improve? Dont bias la, later fail your history then you know.

Band ended at 4.30pm TT.TT cause most of us have to study for exams the next day. But some of us dont have exams eh Mr Tan. *hint hint*

Mr Tan said that he wouldnt stay in a band that doeant wake up or improve and become hardworking within 5 years. So 2 years passed since he came and 3 years left for us to practice hard. Dont think 3 years is alot of time okay!! So grab your instruments and start to practise everything now.

was a disaster. The sec ones somehow didnt come cause they went on the wrong day everytime they sort of gave up..and its Sat morn everybody wants to sleep..and probably wont come tommorow. Exams.

Mr Yea ran through Tumaco with us and we played horribly cause there wasnt sectionals and most of just just dont bother to bring back our instruments and mouth pieces. Many seniors didnt turn up as they want to study... But most of them its just an excuse to not turn up, those who are not good in studies. As if you gonna wake up early on the morn to study in your pjs and nothing goes into your head. Band is only until twelve oclock please la, and stop following your friends if they dont wanna come. And come of you guys after I tell you then regret why come hor...

BRS wasnt good enough and Mr Yea said we are so not there yet man. And like so many impurities.

So yeah, Mr Yea gave up and gather us at the carpark for a quick drill. Taught us how to bang and march properly and more practices. Said with this we can be better if we practice and are harworking.. So next sat morning we might have drills... yay~ Our stamina will be better and play better. and pass Napfa test.

Who dont have recording of whatever song add me on Msn and ask. Or ask your friends. GOGO BAND.

Firstly, tomorrow's a short day of celebration for the New Year, which you can take as a prelude to the real festivities that's going to hit you like a one tonne truck. If you're going to enjoy it, then good, so Happy New Year in advance.

Personally I hate New Years. It gets so damned noisy, and I can lose count of the number of Lion Dance troupes passing through the area/ performing all around Singapore. And the shops are closed. That's a good enough reason to be discontented.

Right. Back on to Band stuffs.

Band, we're going to slam on those accelerators and shift our gears into place because we're not going to play a Grade 3/4 piece properly anytime soon if we don't move our asses. We've only got 15 recruits this year, and that's not counting the fact that amongst these 15, some might quit Band. Knock them out, brainwash them, get them to love band. Then they won't quit. Facts haven't been simpler than that, and you won't get any else if you search underneath a rock.

Anyway, Happy New Year in advance. Stuff yourselves on the supply of red packets coming your direction. I know I won't be getting any good ones.

Which i forgot what happened on Mon...Only know Mr Tan wore a navy blue shirt that day. Yay his favourite color~!

Mr Tan did some warm ups with us. Concert Band Clinic was new to him though, but we didnt sing.
Then here comes the Blue Ridge. Mr Tan ask who dont like then raise the hand. He said cannot da ying everybody that that may be the song everyone likes.. cause there are some people in the band who hates the song. So our Blue Ridge was horrible and he sorta gave up on the way or sumthing, cause never play the second part of the song. Practice Practice moremoremoremore!!

Took some scores and pass to the SLs, songs are Tempest Rising and Queen's Park Melody. The Percussion section got some missing scores, have to find their senior's ones. (Which they sort of threw away during the cleaning of the storeroom, i think.) Tempest Rising was a nice song, like so cool loh, though some people play the slow part so wanna sleep, say very boring. Eh, Its nice song okay!! Just that we played terribly.

Queen's park was nice tune ah. Gave us some time to practice again, while Mr Tan go bo liao bo liao walk around. So we played. (: Said British is Grade 3, American is Grade 4. Actually i wasnt really happy when he said that, wonder why.

As Mr Yea didnt have the conductor score, so we never play Blue Ridge. But that desnt mean you guys dont practice for today you know. Must practice and practice!!! Within six months if can play the song nice and perfect, maybe you guys can play a harder song. Dont wanna play harder song then might as well u dont join Band in the first place la.

So we went on. Mr Yea ask Band Major Melodi to bring out the scores and then he choose what song to sight read. And he choose Whole World and Tomato song. The Whole world is okay... not bad la. But I think tomato is a horrible song, maybe my taste not good. Like funeral song like that. We groaned when Mr Yea mention "Millenium Song" This Kees Vlak composer like a boring person. I dont know his other songs, maybe got happy happy one.

Aiyah i wanna play Bue Ridge la.

Its abit easy , can manage if the sec ones this year comes, since got one and a half year to practice. Looks like many people like the song huh.

About the CCA thing.. Got about 80 people interested. Heh wonder where will we get the chairs and more instruments, but thats not a prob. The performance was kinda... cold. But i thought we tried our best and played well. :) YAY

Band practice yesterday. which was like only a few minutes away. Practiced shake,rattle and roll. mr yea implemented many moves. Now the clarinetists have to dance~ yey yey yey!~

Not many ppl attended band today. well, what can we do since its just after camp.anyway, we have to practice hard for the CCA rehearsal. its a must. remember to memorise your score too....... AND last but not least, there's band on Monday. the CCA Fair rehearsal starts at 2.15pm, so have a heavy recess and report early. after the rehearsal, we will all be given time for lunch. so, see you.

Well my main purpose of posting here is to ask you all for your opinions, i've been wanting to make a new skin for over a week and can't decide what to use. Band photos thats on Claudine Mam's LJ? Or just goggle images up? What colour does everyone like most? Fullpaged or blog once more? Whats best to fit this month's occasion? I cant think! Well please help me by just simply answering these questions haha. Then please tag on the tagboard with your answers.

Band practice today! Mr Yea brought a video for us to watch which lasted for more than 1 hour. It was a video of some Japanese bands and how they practice. The japanese bands were really very good and and the people were soooo hardworking. How great if our band was like that.....

Then there was the warm-ups, rmb, we must must the Concert Band Clinic in the next 9 mths before we go on with the Symphonic Band Clinic warm-ups! Next was a little rehearsal of the upcoming CCA fair. Played Kidz Klassix but Mr Yea said it was not suitable for the CCA fair as it might be a little too 'kiddish' so we changed to Shake, Rattle and Roll. Also had a little run-through for White River Canyon.

Anyway, we must buck up and practice hard for the CCA Fair. As some of you might have heard, Mui Ghern M'am said that most of the Sec 1s are not interested in band so we will have to do very well for the performance and make them ALL come!

SLs, please call your section mates and make them to come. Sec 2s, also mut work hard and pracitce. well, that goes for all seniors too! so see you all in the next practice! MUST COME AHHHHH!!!!

hihi everybody....dont need to buy food for BBQ oredi, cause they ordering all the food by pakage one, then its alot cheaper. But those buying tongs or BBQ brush or water bomb bags (other than food).... still need to buy. hahahahahaha. If u wanna contribute food then u contribute la.

i'll blog as much as i can

1st day
we set off at ard 7.40..
reached KL at ard 2 plus i think..
shopping at sungei wang
had dinner at some chinese restaurant and theres lots of rice and food.
after tat.. check in to our hotel GRAND SEASONS HOTEL.
the rooms are great and bathing was simply SHIOK.haha

2nd day
morning call at 7 plus
breakfast at hotel
then set off to SK..
the sk band played two songs der vogelhandler and mission impossible
they played wonderfully, though mr tan say they were abit unrehearsed.Can u imagine if they are prepared! The sound was very very clean!! OUR GOAL (their sound)
then regent band performed 4 songs..flight of valor, phantom of the opera (can't remember all of the songs)
after which we had sectionals with sk regent and holy innocents band.
the warmups alone was very very tough.. THE SLs ARE REALLY GREAT TEACHERS!
okay.. then lunch. sectionals again..
ard 2 plus..COMBINED!!DAMN FUN!! played white river and legacy.

To bad for those who didnt go, cause it was fun.

Well... actually we were not suprised that the SK band was really good cause Conductor Mr Tan already told us about it and we expected as much...at least I think so.We didnt get to see their band room, maybe cause dont have enough time liao. We didnt see any chickens wandering, though. And we ate them for the dinner the third day. The soup was really yuck... and some unfortunate things happened. But many like the chickens. and I know I am not talking sense.

Their sectionals was really hard , but kinda fun haha. Some thought we are gonna perform by ourselves them got all nervous for nothing. We took many pics even conductors joined in.

Most people slept during the bus trip. Oh shit la i forgot to thank the bus conductor. I am gonna be killed. TT.TT
